A mayor of San Luis Potosi has announced the purchase of 15 of Tesla Inc.’s new modernist Cybertrucks.
Adrian Esper Cárdenas of Ciudad Valles said he booked the trucks by making a deposit of $ 1,500 with his own money, equal to a month’s salary.
“I booked 10 two-engine and five three-engine models,” he told a news conference after placing the order. “Let’s take a picture and send it to Elon Musk [Tesla CEO] to see if he gives us a discount.”
Esper said he did not consult his voters about the purchase, but said his decision to buy electric vehicles for police, garbage collection and other uses was “common sense.”
“It’s not about speed because we don’t want speed. What we are looking for is torque to carry water pipes, garbage trailers. They will have twice the load of a normal truck, ”he said.
Although the models Esper ordered were priced at $ 49,900 and $ 69,900, he claimed it would save up to 24 million pesos ($ 1.2 million) per year, as trucks require little maintenance and none. gasoline to operate.
“The important thing is that regardless of whether the cost is a little high, the benefit is that if you don’t have to do maintenance or add gas, you can save 24 million pesos a year and you pay half the investment,” he said.
