The policy recently enacted by the United States to separate immigrant parents from their children on the country’s southern border has been a black eye for the region.
A Peruvian immigrant in the US is trying to show the horrors of politics through the lens of virtual reality.
Morales helped create an RV documentary called ‘Home with America’, which describes an undocumented Peruvian woman living in the US who meets her mother again despite a debilitating condition.
“We want VR to be a way for people to be reflected and change the way certain stories are told,” Morales told Forbes. “The home with America is not about Glady’s contribution to the economy, how much she pays, or how her children graduate from college … Our way to talk about immigration is to talk about separation, not being able to be with a dying dear, which is something I find quite universal. ”
According to Forbes, the project received funding from the Immigrants Rising Fund for Undocumented Entrepreneurs and the Tribeca Film Institute to boost the program.
“VR has the potential to become the next Hollywood 2.0 or the next tech 2.0 with the same standards of power,” Morales told Forbes. “But because it’s so young, it seems that from the start we can push it to be more inclusive, push it into a medium where more people can see their stories represented.”
